Easter Jeep Safari
April 12th - 20th, 2003: The 2003 Easter Jeep Safari
has come and gone. It's always fun to go to Moab for the Safari, but it's
never fun to leave. Luckily, we've brought back a bunch of pictures so
we can remember all the fun 4-wheelin' we had. If you missed out on the
event this year, check out these pictures and make a promise to yourself
to go next year. It is definitely a great time. We have more and more
fun each time we go! Even if you don't have a truck, being in Moab with
thousands of other enthusiasts is an experience unto itself.
We had about 10 Toyotas tearing up the trails. On Thursday
we made our way through Hell's Revenge. All the slickrock on this trail
makes it a Moab classic. There are some hard obstacles, but most of the
time you can bypass them if you want. Friday found us on Lower Helldorado.
This trail is pretty popular. During the beginning of the day there was
a line of trucks as far as the eye could see. We moved in 20 foot increments
with 20 minute waits in between. It was still fun, though. Lower Helldorado
has many obstacles to negotiate, and with all the people we were able
to watch a variety of vehicles strut their stuff. There are so many trails
in Moab that it took us a while to decide which one to run on Saturday.
We finally decided on Cliffhanger. Cliffhanger only has a few real obstacles,
but there are many places to play and it ends with a spectacular view.
The damage total for the trip is as follows: 1 tipped-over truck (expensive
body work), broken Tacoma main leaf, mini-truck steering knuckle studs,
two FJ-80 birfields, one T100 axle, and a snapped mini-truck driveshaft.
